Richard Grenville-Pitt, The Viscount Grenville (47)
The Well-Meaning Father
Lord Grenville enjoys a high reputation due to his pedigree and position. As an employer, he is a precise man who values decency and manners and appreciates a smooth running of the household; he therefore expects maximum performance from his servants. As a private person, he is a loving and indulgent father and married for the second time.

Ada Grenville-Pitt, The Viscountess Grenville (30)
The Dutiful Lady
Lady Grenville, a sensible young woman, is relatively conservative for her age, has common sense and a realistic view on romance. She has been married to Lord Grenville, 17 years her senior, for less than a year. She has received a very good education and is the first lady of the house since decades.
❗ Character with special responsibilities

Elizabeth Grenville-Pitt (23)
The Dreamy Romantic
Elizabeth, called “Eliza,” is the Viscount’s older daughter. She is a hopeless romantic and is more at home in fairy tales and legends than in the real world. Because of her fairy-like loveliness, she has attracted many suitors, but has chosen Rupert Meysey, who proposed to her several months ago.

Amelia Grenville-Pitt (20)
The Independent Thinker
Amelia, called “Amy”, is the younger daughter of the Viscount. She is not yet thinking about marriage; she wants to become known as a serious writer. Instead, she has so far become famous with a somewhat simple-minded children’s book that is now on every bookshelf in England. The money her books bring in, however, is considerable for a young lady.

Thomas Grenville-Pitt (55)
The Old Bachelor
Thomas is Lord Grenville’s uncle and has been a fixture in the house for many years. A lieutenant-colonel in the British Army, he spends more time at Lynwood Hall than anywhere else. He has a jovial and unconventional nature, so he can largely ignore protocol and say almost anything he wants without anyone holding it against him.

Ethel Stevens Whitehouse (60)
The American Aunt
She is the older sister of Lord Grenville’s first wife and a proud American. She belongs to “the 400,” the crème de la crème of New York’s High society, and is married to a prominent real estate tycoon. She has come all the way from overseas just for Elizabeth’s engagement.

Sir Arthur Meysey (55)
The Experienced Businessman
Sir Arthur comes from a family that made its fortune in wallpapers. After his father, he is only the second baronet in the family. Due to the recent death of his firstborn son Wilfred, he tries to keep the family together in view of the upcoming visit to Lynwood Hall.

Victoria Meysey (51)
The Cornered Mother
Victoria is still mourning her firstborn son Wilfred, who was killed at the front a few months ago. She seeks comfort among her family. She is utterly devoted to her children and only wants the best for them; mother usually knows best what that is.

Rupert Meysey (24)
The Mild-Mannered Heir
The younger son of Sir Arthur has been in the shadow of his older brother Wilfred. He has worked as a lawyer until last year and left for military service with his brother a year ago. But now that Wilfred is dead and Rupert has returned on home leave, his parents’ expectations and hopes rest solely on his shoulders.

Mary Meysey (29)
The Confident Lady
Mary is the eldest child of Sir Arthur. As socialites, she and her brother Wilfred have rarely missed a gala or dinner. She has often been seen with Edward Anson, son of the Earl of Lichfield, one of the most eligible bachelors; unfortunately, he was killed in a hunting accident on New Year’s Eve.

John Meysey, M.D. (33)
The Ambitious Overachiever
John is the son of Sir Arthur’s deceased younger brother. He came to live with his uncle after the accidental death of his parents and was raised by him. He studied medicine and is a captain in the Royal Medical Corps of the British Army. Through his connections, Wilfred and Rupert were able to fight in the same unit as him.

Olive Meysey (30)
The Self-Sufficient Suffragette
Sir Arthur’s spinster sister works as an illustrator. She is a professed suffragette and campaigns for women’s rights, among other things. Her radical ideas may be met with skepticism, if not outright rejection, by some residents of Lynwood Hall.

Albert Morris, the butler (45)
The Faithful Servant
Mr. Morris, Viscount Grenville’s longtime butler and valet, is devoted to the family. As head of the male servants, he commands respect and leads the servants together with the housekeeper Mrs. Chadwick. Morals and discipline are always upheld by him.

Percy Bennett, the first footman (26)
The Traumatized Returnee
Percy is an idealist who still believes in the old virtues and chivalry of the nobility and volunteered for military service at the outbreak of the war. After sustaining a wound at the front, he was allowed to return early, but he hardly tells of his experiences, and if he does, it is with great reluctance.

Liam Russell, the second footman (21)
The Irish Rascal
Liam would have been fired long ago for his big mouth if it weren’t for the lack of male servants. Yet, his helpful nature combined with his boyish charm make him a welcome member of the servants’ staff in spite of everything. He and Clara Russell, the third housemaid, are siblings.

Billy Clarke, the third footman (19)
The Inquisitive Newcomer
Billy is the latest addition to the male staff and the youngest member. He is curious and bright and seemingly wants to know everything. He sometimes shows so much interest in the personal affairs of upstairs that Mr. Morris has to rein him back in.

Mortimer Chadwick, the groundskeeper (41)
The Confused Groundskeeper
Mortimer (few call him Mr. Chadwick, as they should), the long-time groundskeeper, is the somewhat slow brother of the housekeeper Mrs. Chadwick. He sometimes does more damage instead of fixing things as he’s supposed to, so more than a few wonder why Mortimer is still employed by Lord Grenville.

Grace Chadwick, the housekeeper (39)
The Involuntary “Mother”
Mrs. Chadwick IS Lynwood Hall. With confidence, she conducts the large orchestra of servants who fulfill the family’s needs behind the scenes. She runs a tight ship, making sure the family’s standard of living is maintained despite the war. Some say that she is not as strict as she seems.

Daisy Cooper, the first housemaid (24)
The Overwhelmed Housemaid
Daisy is nervous and insecure, but has worked her way up to first housemaid in Ellie Parker’s absence. She wants to prove herself in the role and is willing to work her fingers to the bone to do so, but she doesn’t always succeed in exerting the authority her role requires.

Ellie Parker, the second housemaid (25)
The Driven Returnee
Ellie comes from a family of generations of servants and was the former first housemaid in the Grenville household before marrying a gamekeeper. After only a year of marriage, she returns to Lynwood Hall as second housemaid to earn her own living again.

Clara Russell, the third housemaid (21)
The Rebellious Brat
Clara is a rather rebellious servant girl who doesn’t mince words. She has worked at Lynwood Hall for a year and a half and has proven to be a competent employee, if somewhat lacking in discipline. Her brother Liam, the second footman, owes his job to her after she introduced him to Mr. Morris.

Maggie Smith, the fourth housemaid (18)
The Innocent Dreamer
Maggie is a young and inexperienced maid who spends more time daydreaming than polishing silver. She is a true romantic and dreams of a prince who will one day take her away to marry her and start a family of her own.

Agnes Brown, the cook (62)
The Heart of the Kitchen
Mrs. Brown has been the Grenville-Pitts’ cook for many years. Despite her long service, she behaves insanely shyly toward upstairs and feels most at home in the kitchen. There she rules over her own realm with an iron fist, although long-time employees know that this is just a gruff façade.
⚠ Played by organizer

Gwendoline Baker, the assistent cook (28)
The Flirty Pastry Chef
With Mrs. Brown set for a well-deserved retirement in the foreseeable future, Gwendoline has been brought on board to succeed her. She is an old friend of Mrs. Chadwick’s. Always in a good mood, she loves to banter with the men. Although she will be responsible for everything from consommé to cheese platters in the future, her passion is patisserie.

Florence Watson, the lady's maid (32)
The Competent Lady’s Maid
Miss Watson has been Lady Grenville’s lady’s maid since before she married Lord Grenville. She maintains a politely distant but professional relationship with the higher servants. She is appreciated by Lady Grenville for her intellectual nature.

Bernard Harrison, the Meysey's family valet (36)
The Light-Hearted Charmer
Mr. Harrison has been valet to Sir Arthur Meysey for two years. He originally wanted to become a professional rugby player, had he not suffered a terrible injury. Despite his injury, he has lost none of his strength and instead embarked on a career as a valet, where he quickly rose through the ranks thanks to his cleverness. Just as his employers are guests of the Grenville-Pitt family, he is now a guest of the servants at Lynwood Hall.

Lillian Turner, the Meysey family's lady's maid (29)
The Calculating Lady’s Maid
Having previously worked as first housemaid at Lynwood Hall, Miss Turner accompanies the Meysey family in their position as lady’s maid. She has served them well thus far and seems to have a good relationship with Mary Meysey in particular. Just as her employers are guests of the Grenville-Pitt family, she is now a guest of the servants at Lynwood Hall.
